According to the latest data from Counterpoint Research, global PC shipments fell by 4.3% in the first quarter of 2022 compared with the same period in 2021, but MacBook sales increased by 8%.
Overall, global shipments of all PCs, including Macs, declined 4.3% year over year in the first quarter of 2022, with a total of 78.7 million units shipped. Lenovo remained the largest PC sales company with a 23.1% share of shipments, with a total of 18.2 million PCs sold, but down 9.5% year over year.

HP's share was 20.2%, down 16% year over year, with a total of 15.9 million PCs sold. Dell's sales increased slightly to 13.8 million units, compared to 13.6 million units in the first quarter of 2021, up 1% year over year.
Counterpoint Research said HP's decline was largely due to weaker demand for Chromebooks, which also contributed to a 1% drop in Acer's shipments.

The research firm also attributed the overall decline in global PC sales to a shortage of computer components caused by the coronavirus and uncertainty about demand.
However, the gap between global PC demand and supply is narrowing, according to research, a sign that the tight supply of computer components is coming to an end.
