Intel's next-generation 10nm server CPU opens up and gathers PCIe 5.0 / DDR5 once

Intel yesterday officially announced that it will launch a variety of 10nm processors in 2020 . The 10nm processors for servers are The Ice Lak-SP series, and the next generation is Sapphire Rapids, the specifications are even more invincible, PCIe 5.0, DDR5 are gathered at once.

Intel's 10nm processor has no high-performance desktop version. It is estimated that the upper limit of 10nm performance is not as good as 14nm. After all, the latter achieves an acceleration frequency of 5.3GHz, which cannot be achieved by the 10nm process.

However, the high density and low power consumption of the 10nm process is very suitable for other markets. The desktop version of the 10nm Jasper Lake launched in 2020 is the Atom product line for the ultra-low power market, and the 10nm Ice Lake-SP server market.

In addition to upgrading the Sunny Cove microkernel, 10nm Ice Lake-SP is expected to have a maximum of 38 cores and 76 threads and support 64 PCIe 4.0 channels, which is not a small upgrade compared to the 14nm Cascade Lake and Copper Lake series.

There is a new generation of 10nm processor Sapphire Rapids (sapphire torrent), its upgrade range is even more powerful, supporting 8-channel DDR5, 80 PCIe 5.0 channels, and optional support for the new-generation CXL bus and HBM2 memory .

As for the number of cores, it has a maximum of 112 cores, but this may be a dual-channel CPU configuration. Each 56-core CPU is packaged with 2 sets of 28-core CPU glue, similar to the current Xeon Platinum 9200 series.

As for the release time, Intel's plan is to launch the Sapphire Rapids processor in 2021, and it will take more than a year.
