Intel survived: won chip patent litigation, avoiding 19.5 billion yuan in fines

Intel escaped the catastrophe, because if it did not win, then it would be a fine of close to 19.5 billion yuan waiting for itself.

The Texas federal jury ruled on Wednesday that Intel did not infringe on chip patents held by VLSI Technology, thus avoiding the impact of another multi-billion dollar compensation. The chip patent is used to speed up computers and was previously held by NXP Semiconductors.

According to the statement, Intel did not infringe the two patents held by VLSI. It was in the same court of this trial that another jury demanded Intel to pay VLSI US$2.18 billion for infringement of other patents last month.

This is the second patent lawsuit initiated by VLSI against Intel. In this lawsuit, VLSI asked Intel to pay $3 billion in compensation, believing that this patented invention is essential for Intel to increase chip speed and reduce energy consumption requirements.
